Arellano named NSAA weekley athlete

University of Jamestown's Kaiann Arellano was named North Star Athletic Association women's outdoor field athlete of the week.

The Jamestown native won the North Star heptathlon held in Dickinson with a career-best and conference meet record score of 4,529 points. The tally placed her third best in the NAIA.

Arellano won the high jump, shot put and 100-meter hurdles, while also placing second in the 200 and 800, third in the javelin and fourth in the long jump. The Jimmie senior then went on to lead UJ's 4x100 relay team to second-place (49.85) during the Dickinson State Last Chance Meet.

Arellano also qualified for nationals in the 100 hurdles (14.68). Arellano has qualified for the NAIA nationals in the heptathlon, 100 hurdles, high jump and as a member of the 4x400 relay team.

Bennion 94th after two rounds

Jamestown's Sierra Bennion is tied for 94th at 21-over par 165 (82-85) after two rounds of the women's golf NCAA Madison (Wisc.) Regional on Tuesday at University Ridge Golf Course.

Bennion is a sophomore on the North Dakota State women's golf team. The Bison carded a second-round 10-over par 298 to move into 17th place overall in the tournament.

NDSU has a 36-hole team score of 37-over par 613 (315-298) heading in Wednesday's (May 9) final round.

JHS softball rescheduled

Yesterday's (May 8) Jamestown High School softball game against Mandan was rescheduled due to inclement weather. The doubleheader will now be played on May 17.

Cards win a pair

Carrington topped Sheyenne-New Rockford 4-3 in Class B baseball action Monday in Carrington.

Kyle Leapaldt pitched all seven innings for the Cards, notching 12 strikeouts. Jayden Shipman went 2-for-3 with a double in the winning effort, while Johnny Grann batted 1-for-3 with two runs scored for the Rockets.

On Tuesday, Carrington defeated Kidder County-Steele-Tappen-Wing-Napoleon 5-2.

Shipman once again led the way, hitting a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs scored out of the leadoff spot. Ethan Hager knocked in both runs for Kidder County in the loss.
