Lions district governor recognizes members
At the May 1 Lions meeting, Dwaine Heinrich introduced guest speakers District Gov.-elect Rob Lein and his wife, Carla. Rob Lein expressed his appreciation to the Jamestown Lions Club for almost 90 years of service to the Jamestown community and Lions International. Jamestown Lions was organized on May 22, 1929. Lein also discussed his hope of forming more Leo Clubs in the district including one in Jamestown. The Leo Club objective is to provide youth with an opportunity for development and contribution, individually and collectively, as responsible members of the local, national and internationally community. Leo is an acronym for leadership, experience and opportunity.
Lein also gave recognition to the following members with milestone membership anniversaries: Alex Schweitzer, 10 years; Duane Enzminger, 25 years, and Tom Sanders and Dwaine Heinrich, 30 years.
Carla Lien, who is chairing the Lion Peace Poster Contest, discussed the steps of sponsoring the poster contest should the club choose to take on this project.
Mildred Hager presided over the meeting and led with the Pledge of Allegiance. Ed Anderson gave the table prayer. Hager acknowledged the spouses in attendance in recognition of May Day. In other business, the club will once again assist with Stutsman County Fairgrounds cleanup during the fair. The annual Lions picnic will be on July 31 at the Heinrich cabin.
The next meeting will be at 6 p.m. May 15 at the All Vets Club. Guest speaker will be Bob Toso, who will discuss Jamestown Public Schools' working agreement with the new urgent care clinic. Prospective members and guests are welcome. For information on membership, contact Randy Lebahn, 320-1678.
